Impact Investing

Impact investing is an array of investing practices that prioritize social good along with financial return. For a primer, check out this introductory resource provided by Mission Investors Exchange.

Our impact investing journey began in 2017, assisted in large measure by Deborah Kasemeyer at Northern Trust. Since then, we’ve taken steps to deepen our understanding and implement best practices in impact investing. To date, we have:

  • Designed and hosted a Mission Investors Exchange event
  • Investment committee of the Board adopted a Policy on Place-Based Impact Investing
  • Supported the Virginia Impact Investing Forum 2018 Virginia Impact Report
  • Made more than $1 MM in debt and equity investments in Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFIs)
  • Introduced regional partners to national investors that have invested more than $10 MM in the Richmond region.
  • Moved appropriately into balanced ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) investing
