We are excited to announce that Fred Karnas, PhD, a former Senior Fellow with Richmond Memorial Health Foundation (RMHF) and nationally recognized specialist in housing issues and aging services, has rejoined the staff as the Older Adults Initiative Fellow. In this short-term, part-time role, Fred will provide guidance on RMHF initiatives impacting the Region’s older adult population.
“Having someone with Fred’s experience and expertise back on the team is great news not only from RMHF, but for our partner organizations,” said RMHF President & CEO Reggie Gordon. “Fred has worked tirelessly to promote health and racial equity in his wide variety of roles through the years, and we are excited about how our combined efforts can drive lasting change and support the communities we are dedicated to uplifting.”
Previously, Fred worked at RMHF as a Senior Fellow before being chosen by the Biden Administration for a position in the U.S. Department of Treasury, where he joined their Office of Recovery Programs Emergency Housing team as a Senior Policy Advisor. Before his time with RMHF, Fred served in the Obama Administration as a senior advisor in the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and in the Clinton Administration, also with HUD. Fred also has extensive experience serving in leadership roles in nonprofits, foundations, and state government.
“I have always been passionate about RMHF’s mission,” Fred said. “The enduring commitment to health and racial equity and their success in building and sustaining transformative partnerships, especially in the area of aging services, is work I am so passionate about supporting. I look forward to serving the Richmond Region and contributing once again to such an essential community organization.”
We’re thrilled that Fred is once again a part of the RMHF team for a short period, and we look forward to the experience and expertise he’ll bring to our efforts supporting the Richmond region aging population.
